As many of you know, the project “Justice for our Heroes” is a mural that I and a small team of female artist dedicated to the fallen soldiers: Vanessa Guillen, Gregory Wedel, LaVenna Jhonnson and many more. Today on Veterans Day my team would like to honor the families who have lost loved ones by taking pictures of their soldiers name and portrait. If you’d like to help in this small gesture you can do so by meeting us today at 5:15 pm at the parking lot on NW 12th Ave and W Flagler st. (If its not under water). Make sure to bring a candle, wear a black shirt and masks to adhere to Covid regulations. It would mean a lot to the families and friends for our community to support them while they seek justice.
I understand many people’s frustration with the military during this time and especially now that the holidays are around the corner. It’s not easy to reflect on the tragedies that have happened. While painting the wall we received over 100 requests to have soldiers names added and all their stories were absolutely heartbreaking. If you do meet with us today just know that this will be a gathering of people who share something in common. Together we can heal and comfort one another. You are not alone.
